The sanctuary at Lone Pine is known as Australia’s ‘Home of the Koalas’. Often overshadowed by the large zoos available in the country, the work that goes on caring for ill, injured and orphaned koalas is unparalleled. The team are dedicated to rehabilitating the koalas in their care and also help look after kangaroos, platypus and other native Australia species.

Climb Brisbane Story Bridge

One of the city’s most iconic landmarks, did you know that you can climb up Brisbane Story Bridge? Whilst it may not be as dominating as Sydney’s Harbour Bridge, it certainly takes nerves of steel to scale Brisbane’s equivalent.

The views 74 meters above the Brisbane River are spectacular, bridging the popular Southbank district to the CBD. The journey up and over the bridge takes around 2 hours and 30 minutes in good weather conditions and it boasts a unique vantage point of Brisbane that few get to see.

Visit the Gold Coast

Rent a car and whizz one hour south of Brisbane to the Gold Coast. The beaches are outstanding; stretches of white sand with some of the east coast’s best surfing spots. Visit the Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium

If you’re visiting Honey Mountain make sure to pop in to the Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium too. The largest planetarium in Queensland, it features incredible star shows and stargazing at night as well as being home to the oldest asteroid fragments.

Amazingly, entrance to the planetarium is free. However, the Cosmic Skydome Shows do incur a cost.
