5 of The Best Winter Sun Holidays 2022

29th August, 2022, in Travel Advice & Guides

If you are a fan of hot weather, the summer sun in the UK this year will have been a blessing. Giving people the chance to enjoy parks, pub gardens, days out with the family and more. It isn’t something that comes along often but when it does, we certainly embrace it.

Thanks to the higher temperatures this year, the appetite has been created for more fun in the sun, so where do you go when the sun goes down?

You could use the rest of 2022 to take a winter sun holiday and then enjoy the hot weather for longer!

We have picked 5 of our favourites so that you can bask in the sun when everyone else is sheltering from the rain!

1.      South Africa

South Africa is a wonderful county to visit any time of year, in winter you get some fantastic warm weather and the stunning sites. If you aim to visit between November-March, you could enjoy temperatures of as much as 27C. With it being in the same time zone as the UK you can hit the beach or the pool upon arrival without fear of being jet lagged.

You could also take a road trip in your hire car, through the Western Cape which takes you away from the most celebrated part of South African coastline, but towards several stunning views and restaurants.

Famous for its wine and its food, you will not be short of options for when you need to be fed and watered, Safari options are still aplenty too allowing for an opportunity to see some of the worlds most loved, and endangered species.

2.     Kerala

Much like a visit to South Africa, a trip to Kerala in India can give you a fantastic warm climate. With temperatures on average hitting 27C, this southern state gives people a beautiful place for a relaxing holiday. This is more of a holiday for couples, and those maybe looking for some quality R&R rather than an action-packed break. Kerala isn’t the India you would think it is which for some, is more of an allure, for others a disappointment. All we can say is that if you are looking for somewhere calm, cool and lusciously green, with an English summer climate, Kerala is a great option. Head to old Fort Cochin and check out the sandy beaches.

3.     Canary Islands

Popular with families and couples looking to extend their time in the sun, Gran Canaria offers temperatures above 20c all year long.  With the flight only being 4 hours, it isn’t too much for the younger children in the family and once you arrive there is plenty to keep them excited. Water parks, beautiful beaches, an abundance of restaurants mean you can find a little something for everyone. It is ideal for year-round exploration, but some areas do close during the off season. Check with your travel agent for the best options to suit your needs then climb into the hire car and make your way around the island.

4.     Florida

Florida is a constant family favourite, a great climate, plenty to do. And of course, the lure of places like Disneyworld, Universal Studios and Epcot Centre. The beach resorts of the Gulf of Mexico offer a fantastic escape and should Marco Island or Captiva Island hold enough of an allure, you can enjoy a holiday there enjoying a warm coastline that can see temps range from 25-29C. The hurricanes that are known to occasionally blight Florida no longer become a concern in winter either!

Outdoor activity thrives in the winter, and many say that there is actually more to do in winter than the hotter times of year. With so much to see, it would make sense to pick up a hire car at the airport so then you can fully enjoy the huge variety Florida has to offer.

5.     Morocco

Morocco is another destination that provides a different world to the one you are used to in Britain. The short flight transports you from the hustle and bustle of city life to a magical land of camels, immersive scents and history. You can expect a nationwide average temperature of 20C, but some areas will be colder. Things are generally cheap in Morocco and flights to the country are also surprisingly cheaper than you would think.

Embrace the markets and the culture, enjoy the food and drink and marvel at the architecture. Morocco is a hidden winter gem!
